René Lalou's philosophy was to put terroir at the heart of the culture of G.H.MUMM, blending wines from the best Crus to create cuvées that truly reflected this great terroir in terms of aroma, body and flavour. Cuvée R. Lalou is sourced from the finest, oldest and most characterful parcels within the G.H.MUMM vineyard: a choice of twelve mythical ‘lieux-dits’ all situated within the region’s best Grands Crus.
G.H. MummCuvée R.Lalou
"A cuvée that captures so completely the heart of an entire terroir."
Comprising a selection of the best Grands Crus of the House, la Cuvée R. Lalou Millésimé 2002 is a wine of beautiful complexity, balance and harmony. - Didier Mariotti, Cellar Master
The History Behind the Cuvée R. Lalou
Capturing the light, the robe of the R. Lalou Millésimé 2002 is a beautiful and radiant gold.
The nose reveals aromas of fresh and dried fruits, with gourmet notes of vanilla, nougat and honey.
In the mouth, the attack is fresh, then the wine settles. The generous feeling in the mouth builds to a final crescendo and a beautiful long finish.
The 2002 vintage was characterised by a cold winter, followed by a mild, dry spring. The lack of water persisted until the end of July, but in August the rain reappeared. Luckily the Autumn was dry and sunny, with cool, fresh nights: the perfect conditions for maturing the grapes perfectly and concentrating the berries.
A wine of great aromatic richness and complexity, the Cuvée R. Lalou Millésimé 2002 works well as an aperitif or with dishes such as veal in truffles with potato purée or duck in orange sauce.
The Cuvée R. Lalou is served at a temperature of 10°C to 12°C, for tasting between 12°C and 14°C.
Among the twelve possible lieux-dits reserved for the Cuvée R. Lalou, Didier
Mariotti decided to use six, chosen to enhance and balance the Pinot Noirs that drive the House style. These parcels include Les Hannepés, Les Crupots, Les Rochelles and Les Houles, situated in the terroirs of Ambonnay, Verzy and Verzenay – and comprising 53% of the cuvée. They are enhanced by the finesse and elegance of the Chardonnays (47%)
from Les Bionnes, Les Briquettes and La Croix de Cramant, situated in the terroirs of Avize and Cramant. A light liqueur d’expédition of 6g/l and lees ageing of ten years has helped to create a wine that is both balanced and harmonious.
